Sharing knowledge through blended learning

Author: Riscure Team

You know your team needs to learn new skills. But are they actually going to be able to put new knowledge into practice? Will the investment pay off? And how does this work in a remote-first world?

Riscure Academy trainers know that everyone learns at their own pace and has a unique background and baseline knowledge. Furthermore, different training styles resonate in different ways with every learner. Keeping this in mind, this year, Riscure Academy is updating its training solutions to fit everyone’s needs and expectations!

Alex Goumans, Product Manager Riscure Academy: “It’s important for us to offer a variety of ways to transfer our knowledge and blend them together into a program that makes sense. You don’t get to drive without knowing what the road signs mean. And you don’t learn to drive without driving a bunch. And the driving instructor is there to give pointers and help the course correct. It’s pretty much the same for Riscure Academy. We support what’s called the 70:20:10 model. 70% of learning something new is by doing. 20% is through relationships and mentors. And only 10% is structured.”

Following the 70:20:10 model, besides learning and understanding the theory, Riscure Academy cares that learners can implement new knowledge in practice while also staying in touch with Riscure trainers. This way, the learning process becomes blended: combining formal theory, practical exercise, and interaction with Riscure trainers.

“Our niche is highly technical. So we know we have to offer structured training on theory. But even more important is getting hands-on. So we’re building exercise apps because practice makes perfect. And finally, we engage learners through live (virtual) Q&As, to answer tricky questions with nuanced answers, to course correct, and give pointers.” Alex Goumans.

So how do you choose which training best fits your team? For that, it is vital to understand who your team is and where you want them to be. For example, when starting at the basic level of security understanding, the perfect start would be with our updated version of Foundation of Embedded Security Systems (ESS), which will be launched this summer with an exciting hardware component. Want to level up beyond the basics? Then you can continue your path from the Foundations of ESS to the other more in-depth and advanced courses, like Fundamentals of Secure Coding, Advanced Secure Coding (Spring 2021), or Designing Secure Bootloaders.

Are you as excited as we are and can’t wait to start leveling up your team? Check out our current training topic here, and be on the lookout for our Riscure Academy upgrade launch this spring!
