Riscure has received its formal accreditation for delivering PCI MPoC Security Services to the solution providers that wants their solutions to be certified against the MPoC standard. MPoC stands for Mobile Payments on Commercial Off the Shelf (COTS) and it’s a standard for accepting payments on mobile devices (e.g. smartphones / tablets). The main use case of MPoC is small merchants in a mobile environment, for instance taxi drivers or market merchants.
Late November 2022, the PCI SSC published the MPoC standard, followed by the Program Guide and updated version of the security requirements in February 2023. The new certification will gradually replace the existing Contactless Payments on COTS (CPoC), Software-based PIN entry on COTS (SPoC) standards and pilot programs from the payment schemes (Tap-to/on-Phone with PIN), due to its objective-orientated approach and flexibility for both software and hardware components.
The new PCI MPoC standard defines the security requirements for solutions, enabling merchants to accept cardholder PINs or contactless payments on smartphones or other commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) mobile devices. PCI MPoC standard allows the certification of SDK’s (MPoC Software), Attestation & Monitoring Service and MPoC Solution, whereas the previous standards only allowed for the certification of complete solutions. Using certified MPoC components provides more flexibility for the solution providers to achieve the security objectives.
